824. Inflated pride
Daddy, you're awesome.
What about you?
I'm great.
What is Mom?
She's beautiful.

825. New conversations
Need your help with this one. So, let’s say that your child wasn’t being bullied. They were the bully. Whether it is a cry for help or a failure to communicate, how do you stop the behavior (so other kids don’t fear the park, school, et cetera)? And I am not talking about your 18 year old, Cobra Kai, body-bag-putting-into Johnny Lawrence, semi sociopath type … I am talking...

828. Exercise comes more naturally
We just did more than 40 laps around the slide at the nearby play area. 40 laps in little circles, just running, chasing, and throwing rocks. I measured it. 10 laps = 1/4 of a mile. That doesn’t count the run there, back, and all other activities.

Number 2 is getting sick. My wife, Number 1, and I have all been sick, Number 1 most spectacularly by throwing up through the night a few days earlier. This morning I needed to be at work a 6am.
There is something terribly unholy about a marketer getting up before 6. It’s a different crowd that works that early—traders and investment analysts (at least on this side of the country) who bleed...

839. He honks at the slow people at the grocery...
You know those car-ish grocery carts that are impossible to steer? He loves them. They have two steering wheels, which is perfect for him not sharing. When he gets bored with one, there’s another. He crashes a lot when driving that thing, but has only had one head injury, so we deem that pretty successful. Expert tip: using both belts keeps him steady enough, but watch the U-turns. A small...

842. He helps me to be adventurous.
Like the other night when I had to climb (again) over the high fence一complete with spikes on top一to retrieve the ball he had launched from our balcony.
Luckily the girls' apartment complex we hung out most at when I was a freshman in college had a high, spiked fence blocking the most direct route.
This recent adventure was a nice refresher.

843. PB&J is the norm.
Childhood comfort food every day. J = jam. As in someone in the family-made, “Ball” jar, strawberry jam. Not jelly. His J = honey.
I look forward to his teenage years for a similar reason. Pasta-Roni was my college comfort food. Of course, my wife has a huge craving for Shells and White Cheddar when she is expecting, so that has helped me in the interim.

848. He makes our second all the more exciting.
We are now within days or even hours from welcoming child number two. The home is being organized, the baby sitters called, the family on their way.
Last time, it was overwhelming. Questions plagued me, the change to our life consumed me. I asked: What would it be like? Could we handle it? Will we ever get a full night’s sleep again? Will our home ever be clean again? Is he breakable?
And...

Most of the people that follow me seem to have a few things in common, one being that many are parents (or have been parents) of young children. Here, today, is my clarion call for your observations. What selfish reasons do you find for having young kids?
